24 Mar Spring Riding Destination: Eureka Springs, Arkansas
Tucked along the edge of the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas sits a winding little town made up old Victorian homes, stone cottages, art galleries, restaurants, and quaint locally owned shops that have something for everyone.
It just so happens that the roads surrounding this town are some of the best motorcycle touring roads in the entire country….
Eureka Springs was founded in the late 1800’s as a get-away for those suffering from various ailments and medical issues. The fresh spring water surrounding the town was said to hold healing properties, and people flocked from all over the country to bath, drink, and enjoy it. As western medicine became more prevalent and tourism slowed, the tiny town grew into a haven for artists, free-thinkers, and those wishing to enjoy small town life in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. Currently, the population hovers around 2000, with many more added during the spring and summer months.
For riders, Eureka Springs and surrounding areas make the perfect destination for a day trip or weekend getaway. Since the inaugural Bikes Blues & BBQ festival in nearby Fayetteville started in the early 2000’s, Eureka Springs has become a well-known hangout for those traveling on two wheels. The town and its business owners have welcomed the tourism boom, with multiple bike shops, bars, and restaurants opening in the years since.
Eureka Springs is situated right at the top of the famed “Pig Trail” a nationally known route favored by many motorcycle enthusiasts. There are multiple national parks, rivers, and lakes that call this corner of Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri home, making it the perfect place to find breathtaking views, historic sites, and incredible scenic bike routes.
There are plenty of lodging options in and around Eureka Springs, including hotels, bed & breakfasts, cabins, and even tree houses! Some of our favorite stops in town include Pig-Trail Harley-Davidson in Pine Mountain Village, Cathouse Lounge and Pied Piper Pub & Inn, Rockin’ Pig Saloon, Basin Park (there’s usually free live music playing!), and Spring Street Leather on Main.
Regardless of the time of year visited, riders are sure to find something exciting happening in Eureka Springs. The city plays host to events all year long, including Mardi Gras & St. Patrick’s celebrations, art & music festivals, Bike’s Blues & BBQ, and a brand new motorcycle rally starting this spring. The first annual Spring Fling Rally will take place April 6-9, 2017. If you’ve been itching to get the bike on the road, Spring Fling Rally is the perfect destination. Hosted by Cathouse Lounge, there’s a bike show, live music, vendors, Miss Spring Fling contest, and plenty of food and fun to last all weekend.
